Position Summary Information
Job Description Summary
Supervise children during indoor and outdoor activities and routines in accordance with developmentally appropriate practices, NAEYC accreditation and regulatory standards. Maintain a safe, healthy, and attractive learning environment both inside and outside. Gather information and document children’s developmental progress. Writes and implement daily activity plans to develop safe and healthy habits, physical skills, self-esteem, creative expression, cognition, literacy, communication, and social skills of assigned children. Stop unsafe activities. Communicate effectively verbally and in writing with parents and involve parents in the activities of their children. Maintain confidentiality of child and family information. Report suspected child abuse or neglect as required by law. Direct the work of an assistant teacher and/or student assistant. Train and mentor new teachers and DMC students by modeling appropriate teaching and care-giving practices. Provide leadership to the teaching team and support collaboration with community partners. Participate in recommended/required staff development opportunities. Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development, with a minimum of 36 college credits in Early Childhood Education and Child Development. Eight (8) hours of pre-service training or have an acceptable equivalent, such as relevant college coursework. Three (3) years experience teaching children three and four years old. Pediatric First Aid and CPR certification. Food Handler’s Permit.
Knowledge of developmentally appropriate practices in early education and demonstrated knowledge of classroom arrangement, management, curriculum, and interactions. Familiarity with early literacy and math curriculum. Ability to communicate well verbally and in writing, work well with parents and as a member of a team. Demonstrate effective mentoring and training of adults.
Flexibility to work 8-hour shifts between 7 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development. Familiarity with the Texas School Ready! curriculum. Knowledge related to child care licensing, NAEYC Accreditation, and Texas Pre-Kindergarten guidelines. Ability to lift and comfort a child of approximately forty pounds and get up/down from the floor with ease. Ability to supervise children indoors and outdoors year round.
